House of Mercy has reached out to the needs of women and children in the Washington area and beyond since the 1880s. The House of Mercy’s Board of Trustees determined in 1972 that a wider need could be met by converting the building and its program to comprehensive childcare and education for infants and very young children of low and moderate income families.House of Mercy brought Rosemount Center into being as its central mission, providing the building and adjacent property without charge, paying a portion of its maintenance costs, and supplying financial support for the Rosemount programs.
