Learn More About The Campaign for Securing Rosemount’s Future

To ensure that future generations of children in the Washington, D.C. Metro area – regardless of income or background have the strong start they deserve – we are committed to establishing a permanent home for Rosemount by purchasing our historic Mount Pleasant campus from House of Mercy.

From 1972, when Rosemount was established as a separate 501(c)(3) organization, our relationship with House of Mercy meant that our beautiful campus – modernized and customized for those we serve – was subsidized, sustainable and affordable. In 2023, House of Mercy decided to terminate our lease with the intention to sell the building. Rosemount renegotiated its lease, which is extended through August 31, 2026, and includes an option to purchase our historic campus.

The Campaign for Securing Rosemount’s Future is a multi-million dollar effort to stay in Mount Pleasant and lay the foundation for our growth in the years to come. Our primary goal is to raise $7 million for House of Mercy’s purchase price. The DC Council made a lead gift by appropriating a $2 million grant in its FY 2026 budget for Rosemount to purchase the building. The Council is also providing an opportunity for Rosemount to receive an additional $1 million in matching gifts.

Why Your Gift Matters

With your support we can ensure that families continue to have access to Rosemount’s unique early childhood education model. Children in our Early Head Start and Head Start programs learn and grow every day alongside classmates from tuition-paying families in a dual language educational setting.

“We must be teaching our children from a young age so that they can be successful in life, so that they can have access to the best education, throughout their whole lives, so that they can have access to good jobs, so that they can help one another out in the world. These are really critical functions that Rosemount plays here in our community.”

Brianne K. Nadeau

Ward 1 Councilmember, Council of the District of Columbia

Will you help us secure our historic Mount Pleasant campus? With your support, we can ensure that our children have the strong start they deserve.

FAQs

The primary goal of the Campaign for Securing Rosemount’s Future is to raise $7 million for the House of Mercy’s building purchase price by the August 2026 deadline for executing the purchase of the building. Following the building purchase, Rosemount will continue to raise funds over the next nine months for ongoing building maintenance and system replacements as well as support for transitioning from renting to owning the building.

In July 2025, the DC Council allocated $2 million in its FY 2026 budget as a grant to Rosemount for the building purchase. In addition to this grant, the DC Council provided a matching gift opportunity for Rosemount to maximize the amount of funds received from the DC government. To receive $1 million in matching gifts from the DC government, Rosemount needs to raise $1.25 million from private sources (donations from individuals, businesses, and foundations) by April 30, 2026.
